Norwegian Prime Minister
Jonas Gahr Støre
21 Sept 2022 - NOR: Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre says his country is open to the previously unthinkable step of imposing price caps on gas to rein in Europe’s energy crisis.
“These very high energy prices in Europe are not good for Norway,” Støre said. “These are our allies and partners. We are not served by their economies being rocked,” he added.
[MRT: High prices are bad for long term business, wrecked economies mean that there will be less demand for NOT`R energy exports. Note that NOR actually wanted to reduce exports before Nordstream was blown up. See related post.]
22 Sept 2022 - NOR: State Secretary @EivindVP at the Regional High North Forum in beautiful
Hamn in Senja. Important dialogue between central and regional authorities, @Samediggi and the youth county councils in Troms and Finnmark about opportunities and challenges in the North, given a worrying international backdrop.
24 Sept 2022 - NOR/UN: Norway’s prime minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, believes
the world — with one notable holdout — is on the same page: “The war has to stop.”
[MRT: The one notable holdout country is the UK, the perpetrator of the Nordstream attack. He knows and he tells the world that it is just this one Rogue actor which does not want the peace.]
24 Sept 2022 - NOR: Jonas Gahr Støre on Putin's escalation: - Probably arouses a lot of opposition
Jonas Gahr Støre tells Dagbladet that he found it difficult to judge whether Putin is insecure, but is clear that the Russian escalation shows the Russians that the war is not just a simple operation.
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre understands that several people show opposition to the escalation.
[MRT: The UK informed USA about their plans JUST BEFORE the mission, likely after explosives were already planted]
26 Sept 2022 - NOR: State Secretary Eivind Vad Petersson attended a meeting with the marine insurance company Gard about challenges in connection with the sanctions against Russia.
27 Sept 2022 - NOR: Norway launches licencing round for oil & gas exploration in predefined areas
28 Sept 2022 - NOR: Norway to deploy military to protect its oil and gas installations[MRT: This is a very strategic long term decision which shows that Norway knew that the Russian cheaper gas and oil is not returning back to the European markets. They had to know who has done Nordstream, have a safe subtle assumption about the future development of oil and gas industry relations and how the attack on Nordstream effects international relations. This is next indirect proof of Norway having pre-knowledge of the event, with enough advance to analyse implications.]
Norway is the third largest exporter of natural gas in the world, behind Russia and Qatar. About 95 per cent of Norwegian gas production is exported via pipelines directly to the EU and UK. Norway primarily pipes its gas to receiving terminals in Britain, Germany, France and Belgium and late in 2022 also opened a new pipeline to Poland via Denmark.
Norway is typically the UK's largest gas supplier. In 2021, the UK imported £14.5 billion of gas from Norway, which accounted for 77% of all gas imports.
[MRT: Surprisingly no OFFICIAL cooperation ABOUT JOINT PROTECTION at this point with UK]
28 Sept 2022 - NOR/UK: Norwegian Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram @Bjornarildgram visits British Embassy Oslo
[MRT: The UK is THE MAIN SUSPECT and NOR Defense minister visits just their embassy (!). Note that Gram and Støre visited USA as whistle-blowers the week before. They did NOT handl the event through European Naval HQs which are in London, Northwoods but directly through the very top HQs in Norfolk, Virginia, USA. Post here: 069 - Was Norway briefing USA about possible threat to undersea pipeline infrastructure on 19-09-2022?]
28 Sept 2022 - NOR: Statement by Prime Minister Støre at a press conference about the gas leak in the Baltic Sea
On Monday, significant damage was discovered on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines that go from Russia to Europe. The information we have received has reinforced suspicions that the damage is the result of a deliberate act of sabotage. My Swedish and Danish colleagues have indicated that they have drawn the same conclusion, based on what we know now.
[MRT: The statement is carefully drafted, weighing each word, yet it hints at the distinction between the "sabotage" narrative proposed by Western state, EU, and NATO level officials and the "terrorist act" that Russia and Ukraine are claiming. It is notable that representatives from the USA, UK, and EU all engage in synchronized public relations efforts framing the event as "sabotage." A legal definition is impossible without understanding who was responsible and why. For instance, if it were Russia, this could imply the use of joint infrastructure destruction as a weapon against the European public, potentially framing Russia as a terrorist state. This indirectly suggests that Russia is not the likely perpetrator. It also indicates that “sabotage” is preferred over the more costly "terrorist act," as the guilty state would be liable for insurance claims that could be significantly higher if framed as "sabotage." Knowing who was behind the act, who the target was, and the actual motives is crucial for making such statements.]
This potential act of sabotage has taken place against a backdrop of war and an energy crisis in Europe.
[MRT: This statement, along with similar remarks from other Norwegian NATO officials like Jens Stoltenberg, suggests that the issue is not directly part of the Ukrainian-Russian conflict but is related to it. This implies that Ukraine is not the aggressor in this situation.]
Over the past few days I have been in close contact with my Nordic colleagues, the German Chancellor, the President of the European Commission, NATO’s Secretary General and other allies about this incident and how to respond.
[MRT: Note the "FEW DAYS" ....The incident happened on Monday 26-09-2022 and there were two blasts, one small at nigh/morning hours, the other much later on Monday evening...! So HOW could he potentially call with others FOR PAST FEW DAYS when only on Tuesday 27-09-2022 it was due to dark and late hours possible to look deeper at the incident? First two days it was not even clear that it was man made and not accidental WW2 unexploded ammunition. This means he had very likely pre-knowledge like others about the incident he mentioned?]
[MRT: This statement therefore implies that He, his Defence minister Gram whom he visited the USA, Olaf Scholz, Von der Leyen, Jens Stoltenberg and allies he communicated with KNEW beforehand! This confirms the likely scenario that HE Himself was the Whistle-Blower and also this post about Norfolk sharing here and about meeting with Austin. Then it is reasonable to conclude that Norway was seeking the fast track bilateral defense agreement which covered Norway would the Article 5 not be triggered, a requirement when one member attacks. Note that Norway is also a part of JEF group which is led by the UK. Norway did not seek support, joint defense from the UK which makes it itself a very odd "dog which did not bark" event.]
The EU has issued a statement, and the matter is being discussed today in the North Atlantic Council.
[MRT: The collection of first statements is here]
The message we have communicated to our allies is consistent with what has been said by the Danish and Swedish authorities:
We view this as a very serious situation. This appears to have been a deliberate act of sabotage.
[MRT: If proven that he knew beforehand and did not hand the information to majority owners of the pipeline - Gazprom - then this could have theoretically even legal consequences for Norway.]
Norway is aware of the special responsibilities it has to safeguard security on the Norwegian continental shelf, and as Europe’s largest supplier of gas.
[MRT: This could be the reason why Norway run to the USA for the cover against possible Russian eye-for-eye, pipeline-for-pipeline retaliation in a scenario that the UK´s attack on Nordstream is discovered and the incident grown into the local war between European states. In that moment Norwegian pipelines to the UK, its main customer, could become justifiable target. This was one of the scenario Norwegian war institute studied in September 2022.]
It is now crucial for Europe and NATO to stand together.
[MRT: If proven that he was incremental in making European states to jointly cover up for the perpetrator, a decision which seemed to happen in Prague on the summit in October - then this could have theoretically even legal consequences for Norway.]
We must determine exactly what has happened and who is behind it,...
[MRT: Well, knowing who was really the top person who decided could happen to prevent next such events. He misses to mention that the perpetrator must be severely punished for serious destruction of European key infrastructure]
...but this may take some time. Even though there are no indications of any direct threats specifically aimed at Norway, the Government has taken steps to strengthen preparedness since the war broke out.
[MRT: He basically states that Russia could string on Norway. But IF it was NOT Norway and they could be hit...then... it was one of its customers. And this is a next reason why the UK must be among the top possible suspects for anyone who looks at the crime and starts with this post.]
Funding has been allocated for a new centre to promote closer cooperation between the police and PST on understanding threats and on how to optimise use of their respective policy instruments to address those threats.
[MRT: Norwegian Police Security Service (PST)]
28 Sept 2022 - NOR: Equinor and Gassco placed under the Safety Act: - Naturally, we step up preparedness
Key companies in the oil industry must cooperate more closely with the authorities. - Can access classified information, says Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.
[MRT: Assuming this is about Nordtsream, what classified information is he speaking about? So Gas companies already know? He had a meeting with all CEOs of NOR Majors on 15-09-2022 when he talked that his colleagues were speaking about war economy. The thesis is that NOR actually knew about the secret UK mission to blow up Nordstream and due to calculated outcome of modelling scenarios they decided to close fast track separate bilateral defence agreement with USA which covers would Article 5 not be triggered. That is a possibility would a NATO member strike Russia covertly.]
According to the Petroleum Act, it is the operators on the shelf who are responsible for the safety measures on platforms and land facilities.
[MRT: So there is some unspecified risk to off shore installations.]
Now important players and the government will work together more closely. Central companies in the oil sector are partially subject to the Act on National Security (the Security Act), Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap) told a press conference on Wednesday.
The government has also decided that "transport of gas in pipes to Europe" should also be understood as a fundamental national function. It reflects today's threat picture.
[MRT: Since Norway has not been the direct participant in the Ukrainian conflict and has not attacked Nordstream they should be safe. Only risk could be IF perpetrator was one of the customers which gets NOR gas. The only possible one is the UK. The NED, GER, POL do get gas from RU so they should be excluded from pool of suspects.]
Then I will repeat this. We have no concrete indications that there are direct threats to Norwegian oil and gas installations, let me emphasize that, but both the companies and the Norwegian authorities are working closely together to strengthen security.
[MRT: Norway cancelled meetings with Russians but spoke with UK and other allies. This could mean that the unnamed perpetrator has promised there are no more planted explosives.]
The incidents in the Baltic Sea meant that the government yesterday decided to further strengthen preparedness related to infrastructure, land facilities and installations on the Norwegian continental shelf.
[MRT: The only risk is Russian retaliation.]
Not only to prevent such an incident as we saw in the Baltic Sea, but also other possible threats that could still come via the internet or in other ways.
[MRT: NATO was expecting Russian retaliation. They did assume this could be direct aka NOR gas infrastructure to the UK or asymmetrical attack against e.g. satellite network, internet cables, etc.]
Earlier today, it became known that Equinor and several other companies have raised the alert level at their facilities.
[MRT: If there is no indication that there is any momentary risk The ONLY remaining risk is Russian retaliation.]
It happened after the Petroleum Safety Authority sent out a message on Monday, asking both operators and shipowners on the Norwegian continental shelf to be extra vigilant.
[MRT: There is no threat but NOR must be vigilant would situation change suddenly]
29 Sept 2022 - NOR/USA: Norwegian Armed Forces | Forsvaret, @Forsvaret_no:
29 Sept 2022 - NATO/NOR: JFD has completed the NATO Submarine Rescue System (NSRS) exercise, Northern Sun, in Norway, including a Deep Dive to over 600 metres for recertification with Lloyd's Register.Rear Admiral Ole-Morten Sandquist welcomed Admiral Stuart B. Munsch, Commander @USNavyEurope and @JFC_Naples at Norwegian Joint Headquarters. Security and stability in the High North is of great importance for both the US, Norway and NATO. #WeAreNATO @usembassyoslo
29 Sept 2022 - NOR: Norway fears gas pipeline to Europe may also become target for sabotage
Following recent events near the Nord Stream pipelines, the Norwegian government held a crisis meeting on Wednesday to discuss the situation.
[MRT: Note that Støre said already "Over the past few days I have been in close contact with my Nordic colleagues, the German Chancellor, the President of the European Commission, NATO’s Secretary General and other allies about this incident and how to respond." but then the government crisis meeting was jut the previous day? This confirms that he, without the wider knowledge of NOR government KNEW about the Nordstream affair days in advance (!) and they were trying to handle it.]
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has refused to speculate if Moscow is responsible for the damage to the Nord Stream pipelines.
[MRT: No speculation because he knew who did it, and that the perpetrator tried to blame Russia for the act which could spark confrontation with Russia.]
Yet he stressed that gas is "an important dimension" in the conflict over the war in Ukraine at a press briefing on Wednesday.
[MRT: Gas geo-politics is an important aspect of the "WAR OVER UKRAINE" not part of the war. So Ukraine was not involved but another rogue actor who is invested in the Ukrainian-Russian war.]
Støre added that Norway did not need to ask NATO for help in securing Norwegian energy supplies.
[MRT: So it as definitely not Russia then. Also getting NATO involved, where one member was the rogue actor COULD BE SEEN as the whole alliance was involved. So he did NOT want to see NATO´s role in NOR territorial waters and EEZ to increase risk for NOR offshore installations. He likely had a confirmation from the perpetrator that there were no plans or missions against Norway. This could be checked by looking at his official logs, who he spoke with, whom he met previous days]
"We don't have any information on a specific threat against Norway," he said, adding that we must be "aware, not naive". Security and monitoring will be boosted, Støre said without going into any details.
[MRT: Having no information on specific threats would not be good enough reason to be lax in protecting now the super important The key European infrastructure on which European economy depends. Note that the WEEK AGO on 19-09-2022 he and his defence minister Gram flew to the USA and closed fast-track Bilateral Defence agreement (!). He KNEW. HE WAS THE WHISTLE-BLOWER.]
30 Sept 2022 - NOR: Forsvarsdepartement - After the gas leak in the Baltic Sea, the Norwegian Armed Forces are now more present and visible in the areas around our oil and gas installations.
[MRT: Presence to deter possible further provocations.]
30 Sept 2022 - NOR/NATO: Jonas Gahr Støre: Spoke to @jensstoltenberg about
how we stand together to safeguard Europe’s energy supply. And how we will continue to support Ukraine against unlawful aggression. Unity and resilience will prevail.
30 Sept 2022 - NOR/GER/SEE/FIN/DK: Conversation with allies about the situation in the Baltic Sea[MRT: He basically he states that the UK´s rogue action against Russian and European key infrastructure does NOT change anything. That NATO unity is unwavering despite one member just attacked others and that such act does not change any posture against Russia. He basically indirectly APPROVED THE TERRORIST ACT. HIS OPTIONS WERE LIKELY LIMITED AND THAT DECISSION WAS DONE BY TINY GROUP OF DECISSION-MAKERS]
Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre this afternoon had a telephone conversation with the heads of state in Germany, Sweden and Denmark about this week's serious events in the Baltic Sea.
30 Sept 2022 - SWE/NOR/FIN/DK/IS: The #Nordic ministers of Defence met virtually today. 🇸🇪 🇳🇴 🇫🇮 🇩🇰 🇮🇸 Joint statement:[MRT: In a few days an event will take place in Prague. Discussion about energy securoty of the continent will be made - 047 - The Prague Summit & possible cover-up of Nordstream affair. The data point that the decision not to release who did it, despite the fact they already knew from before the event who will and did it, was postponed.]
"We, the Nordic Ministers of Defence are deeply concerned about the damage to the Nord Stream pipelines in international waters in the Baltic Sea. All information currently available points to a deliberate act of sabotage close to the national borders of Denmark and Sweden.
It cannot be ruled out that this is a reckless attack on Europe’s energy infrastructure and an attempt to destabilise the already tense security situation. The leaks from the pipelines are causing risks to civilian sea-traffic and substantial environmental damage.
[MRT: The distrust among NATO members was present. They questioned real motives of the perpetrator. Was it really against starving Russia of its income from hydrocarbons or was there also some motive (partly) to destabilize European economies as UK´s own economy was lacking? See post 027 - Mission accomplished - UK - From Energy Importer to Energy Exporter.]
Finland, Iceland and Norway stand ready to support Denmark and Sweden by any means possible in the investigation of the incident. We are in close contact with each other regarding the incident and the overall security situation in the Baltic Sea region and beyond..."
[MRT: If the incident is framed as an armed attack by a state against Russia, this could be a "Causus belli" incident and the perpetrator could be in a hot war with Russia. That is a serious security issue for all. This is also very likely one of the main reason to jointly conceal the perpetrator.]
