019 - Submarine threat in the Baltic Sea and the German led "Northern Coasts" exercise

PREFACE/ISSUE

This post describes relevant thoughts about the NordStream affair.
Links = web link to news article. Check for more info!
I wrote these points in a document which I posted in October to my Twitter pined tweet
The purpose was to sort out things systematically to be able to understand what happened

- under reconstryction -

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2022/12/22/ffci-d22.html

Main topics covered:

This post explores the claim that USA and allies (led by GER) actually tried to protect Nordstream pipelines.

  • The USA provided data already in June.

  • Then USA had some split with UK on 20-21 September.

  • Did USA left the Baltic Sea on 23rd September because:

    • It left protection of pipelines on its allies?
    • It left because it learned planting operation succeeded and it did not want to be in the possibly what could happen a battlefield. Next European messy gangrene?

    (Spoiler alert:

The UK is considered the Prime Suspect

The UK submarine S120 Ambush considered involved

The data/clues hint that the USA knew about it

The data clues/hint that allies tried to protect NS)

1. Were USA, GER and other allies aware of UK attack on Nordstream?

The article  discusses the actions taken by various countries prior to the damage to the Nord Stream pipelines. It discusses the role of USS Kearsarge, a US Navy amphibious assault ship that recently transited the Baltic Sea.

NATO and the US have been involved in efforts to address security concerns in the region.

The article explores the possibility that US, DK, SWE, DK and possibly French navies protecting Nordstream pipeline against adversary.

Possibly the UK navy and its submarine Ambush S120

2. The strategic CIA warning in June 2022

June 2022: Der Spiegel was the first to report that the The C.I.A...

...issued a vague warning in June to a number of European nations, including Germany, that the two Nord Stream gas pipelines that carry natural gas from Russia could be targeted in forthcoming attacks, three senior officials familiar with the intelligence said on Tuesday...

... what intelligence officials call “strategic warning” of a possible attack — a warning that came with no specifics about the likely time or place or manner of a potential strike... The Biden administration, which in the run-up to the war often accused Russia of planning attacks on Ukraine, was careful on Tuesday not to blame Moscow — or anyone else.

[M: Perhaps because the plan was still unclear? Because the threat would come in future? Note that it was warning to European nations, most likely those who are shareholders of NS: GER, FRA, NED.]

3. The CNN Said there was a submarine in Baltic Sea after 26/9

The CNN wrote about it but since it was not Russian this news was "forgotten":

The CNN shortly reports that the week before the Nordstream sabotage there were some Russian submarines in the area, other newspapers reposted.

"Russian submarines were also observed not far from those areas last week, one of the intelligence officials said.

US officials declined to comment on the intelligence about the ships on Wednesday."

[M: More about it in another blog post here, here, herehere]

[M: How is this possible that nobody followed up on this news? How so nobody tried to use this argument that a RU submarine was in the area? Could it be that it would NOT be Russian and the news about this have been supressed since the 29/09/2000 the day CNN reported it? Could it be that digging in this could expose the real adversary? If there was a sub, what is the possible evidence?]

4. Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW)Activities before 26/9

The USS Kaersarge was not part of the exercise - sub detected?

Did this lead to the next warning to Germans and European allies?

What was Kaersarge anti submarine helicopters seeing near Gdansk?

Why did Kaersarge leave the Baltic Sea on 21/09 after issues with UK-UA "special relationship - here?

1,2,3 Sept 2022 - US Military Helicopters Circled Around Future Nord Stream Leaks For Hours In September

In particular, at the beginning of the month, a US Navy Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk helicopter loitered over the location of pipelines in the Baltic Sea near Bornholm for three days in a row on September 1, 2 and 3

[M: Note that helicopters are excellent for ASW,
Anti-Submarine-Warfare, they stay at place,
they can drop sonar or sonar-buoy and transmit data]

[M: Looks like a chase but there was no boat there]

[M: Again, ASW capability.
Helicopters are better than planes due to lower speed for anti-sub warfare]

FlightRadar shows a few flights there on that day

[M: There were several flight and several investigations, was this just a drill?]

[M: The post of the blogger is interesting. How so no Russian sub was announced?
US was conducting anti-submarine mission which has not been a drill.]
[Could it be that a UK submarine was discovered here?]

It is curious that on September 2, almost in parallel with the US military, a military helicopter NH90 of the Dutch Navy was flying in the vicinity of Bornholm Island, probably observing the activities of the Americans....

US helicopters, according to Flightradar24, also flew over the branches of Russian gas pipelines on September 10 and September 19.

[Could it be that a UK submarine was tracked and followed here?]

In all cases, the trajectories of the US military speak of observation flights or loitering with other targets over a specific section of the water area. Helicopters that made sorties on the night of September 22-23 and 25-26 have especially confusing tracks.

[M: Perhaps there was a UK submarine in the vicinity and US Navy from Kaersarge was tracking its movements. This kind of excludes that it was a secret approved NATO operation, looks more like UK went rogue and USA has been on it, knew, monitored yet has not stopped it or did not understand intentions of the submarine - speculating on another post with How it maybe went - so far sequence is in few posts on twitter. Btw, the path looks like the helicopter dropped sonarbuoys, then cycles to transmit its data to Kaersarge].

2 Sept 2022 - helicopter call sign FFAB123 MH-60S from USS Kearsarge flew either along the route of Nord Stream-2 or generally between the points where the accident occurred.

12 Sept 2022 NAVSUP, mission partners sustain USS Kearsarge ARG readiness for Baltic Sea exercises

19 Sept 2022 Leaves Gdynia

21 Sept 2022 Leaves Baltic sea

22 Sept 2022 -  #VVHG725 #AE4FE2 USN MH-60R Strike Hawk

 '
USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) Wasp-class amphibious assault ship,
USS Arlington (LPD 24) and
USS Gunston Hall (LSD 44) northbound in the Great Belt

Too many capabilities and features to list
but an advanced sonar system
seems appears to be what stands out.

Took off from USS Kearsarge off the coast of Sweden
[MRT: Kearsarge left already, from another ship?]

The MH-60R Seahawk from the USS Kearsarge
is flying off the coast of the Kaliningrad Oblast

23 Sept 2022 -  Anti-submarine warfare MH-60R from the nearby USS Kearsarge

23 Sept 2022 -  USS Kearsarge´s  MH-60R Seahawk 168146
active off the coast of #Kaliningrad.

24 Sept 2022
US Navy MH-60R Sea Hawk VVHG725

Took off from Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport
instead of USS Kearsarge.
Anti-submarine warfare helo over
the Baltics off the coast of Kaliningrad.

24 Sept 2022 - No doubt "something" has the USN's interest- concern off Kaliningrad.  Helo has been over that spot for 7 consecutive days.

24 Sept 2022 - Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group transits Danish Strait (date - earlier transit)

[M: US Kaersarge was deployed in June on Baltops 22, then redeployed to Baltics again and stayed there until 24 SEpt 2022. Left just 2 days before the event. Coincidence or was the USA actually in the area helping allies to protect their infrastructure?]

V. The NORTHERN COASTS EXERCISE

Then it was announced: "On September 15-19 warships of Germany, France and Estonia are assembling in Klaipėda Seaport for international annual maneuvers Northern Coasts 2022 in the Baltic Sea."

The exercise was extended over the 26/09 event.

"Our allies expect a leadership role from us" mean that US said to its allies to take care of its pipelines after warning them?

"The Baltic Sea is of vital importance for the Alliance and is bordered by six NATO countries”, said NATO spokesperson Oana Lungescu. “Northern Coasts is now in its 13th year.'

Note Bundeswehr statements

The increased presence in the Baltic Sea has also had an impact on the Navy's annual autumn maneuvers: Northern Coasts lasted longer than usual this year at four weeks, from 29 August to 28 September. This provided an opportunity for more participation from Germany's Baltic Sea partners.

"As a major resident, we have a natural focus in the Baltic Sea region," explains the Inspector of the Navy, Vice Admiral Jan-Christian Kaack. "Our allies expect a leadership role from us."
"There has been a significant shift in the projects of our ships, boats and aircraft from outside to the Baltic Sea," confirms frigate captain Ulrich F. from the MOCMaritime Operations Centre. And he adds: “This applies to both national and international units. However, exact figures, data and facts are classified.
"...As much steel at sea as possible..."
[M: Why and when were assets activated and called into the Baltics?
And why was the exercise extended from 3rd-15th till 28-09?

Was USA demanding GER leadership in the case as it was about European key infrastructure?]

About the exercise:

Northern Coasts is a recurring exercise which has been taking place in the Baltic Sea since 2007. It is hosted by a different Baltic country each year.

German Navy Admiral Stephan Haisch will lead the units involved in the exercise from the German Navy’s operations center in Glücksburg. As part of the exercise scenario, a fictitious regional country raises territorial claims over islands in the Baltic Sea using its naval forces to threaten freedom of navigation.

Acting on a UN-mandate, Allied and partner forces will seek to restore freedom of navigation. Training will also include maritime surveillance, naval combat, air-defence, anti-submarine warfare and mine-clearance.

See article about participants and paths - here.

The exercise typically involves a variety of naval activities, including:
  • Maritime interdiction operations: These are activities aimed at intercepting and boarding vessels suspected of engaging in illegal activities such as piracy, drug trafficking, or smuggling.
  • Anti-submarine warfare: This involves detecting, tracking, and countering submarines using a variety of tactics and technologies.
  • Mine countermeasures: These are activities aimed at detecting, locating, and neutralizing sea mines using specialized ships, aircraft, and divers.
  • Maritime security operations: These are activities aimed at ensuring the safety and security of commercial shipping and other vessels operating in the exercise area.
  • Search and rescue operations: These are activities aimed at rescuing distressed mariners or aircraft in the exercise area.
  • Naval gunfire support: This involves using naval artillery to provide fire support for troops operating on land.

VI. One German boats seems not to be part of the exercise - why?

9-14 Sept 2022 - German Navy had an intelligence ship and a submarine hunting warship in the area (reported by Billy Bostickson, @BillyBostickson)

The German intelligence vessel „OsteA52 - The German Armed Forces call it their „eyes and ears was in the Bornholm area on 14th of September. Perhaps it spoiled the first attempt to mine the NS1 and NS2.
[M: Spooked by some contact it rushed to Bornholm to find nothing.
The submarine escaped and returned later to finish the job - see post.]

[M: After conducting further research, I could not find any information indicating that the German intelligence vessel "Oste" A52 participated in the NATO Northern Coasts exercise 2022. It is possible that the vessel was not part of the exercise, or that its participation was not publicly disclosed. Its presence near Bornholm is very suspicious. What was it doing there?]

Leaving the Area

Shortly after the mine sweeper, the „Oste“ and „Schleswig-Holstein“ both also finally left the waters east of Bornholm after six days. They arrived in the port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, one day later on the morning of 16 September. There they took a break from the exercise, according to a later press release from the German Navy.
[M: Unfortunately the boat did not stay to guard the Nordstream.]

VII. One French boat seems also not to be part of the exercise

20 Sept 2022 - The Finnish Navy is exercising with the French

... mine countermeasures vessel Céphée in the Baltic Sea 22¬-23 September 2022 Afterwards the French vessel will moor in Turku until the 28th of September.
[M: France is also a shareholder of Nordstream, or better to say French company, it is key EU infrastructure]

VIII. The UK opens channels to deescalate to AVOID nuclear response

26 Sept 2022 - UK, Russian defence officials meet in London;

       26 Sep 2022 - 19:01 (19:01 GMT)

The UK’s chief of defence staff has held talks with the Russian defence attaché at the Ministry of Defence in London.

Admiral Sir Tony Radakin and Colonel Maxim Elovik met as part of ongoing efforts to “strengthen military to military channels of communication” with Russia.

IX. The DK leads the way

30 Sept 2022 - The Prime Minister ok DK travels to London and Brussels to discuss the destruction on Nord Stream 1 and 2.

The trips to London and Brussels follow talks with a number of heads of state and government, including a video conference with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, the Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, and the Swedish Prime Minister, Magdalena Andersson, who leads the Swedish transitional government.

[M:  Mette Frederiksen has before a videoconference with SWE, NOR, and GER. Then she travels to London to meet Liz Truss and then to Brussels to meet NATO. Note the sequence of meetings, the timing, who she meets in person and who she has only a video conference]

X. Does the German navy KNOW who did it?

3 Oct 2022 - The person responsible for the Nord Stream gas pipeline leaks is unlikely to ever be held accountable, Vice Admiral Jan Christian Kaack, Commander of the German Navy, told Monday's "Aktuaalne kaamera".

"The basis for seeing possible events is a clear picture of the sea, or observation. If there is a clear picture of the air, surface or subsurface — almost clear, because you cannot always be completely sure — then you can look at anomalies in the system and then you can bring a special unit to the area where the anomaly was detected," Kaack said.

[M: My interpretation is that Germany KNOWS for sure which asset was there and caused the sabotage. Note that Jan Kaack speaks most likely about the mission The German intelligence vessel „Oste“ A52 - The German Armed Forces call it their „eyes and ears“ had just before the Nordstream affair.]

[M: Germany sending all they have to... do what exactly?]

XI. USA investigates the area post mortem

Around 8 Oct 2022, USS Paul Ignatius investigated Danish NS 1 blast location before moving to Swedish NS 1 blast location¨

Around 25 Oct 2022, either USS Paul Ignatius or USS Roosevelt inspected Southern NS2 blast site

U.S. Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer
USS Paul Ignatius (DDG 117)

Reported by Billy Bostickson

Primary article by Oliver Alexander

Note that Oliver Alexanders´s conclusion about those moves is that:

"While no official hands on U.S. investigation of the Nord Stream sabotage has been announced, it looks very likely that all the sites were inspected first hand by U.S. Arleigh Burke class destroyers"

XII. Belgium and UK relations after

25 Nov 2022 - Belgium blocks export of nuclear technology to UK

Britain and Belgium are locking horns in a furious despite after Brussels blocked the export of nuclear technology that plays a crucial role in maintaining the UK's nuclear deterrent (for submarines).

Summary:

The USA warns European allies, shareholders of Nordtsream (?) in June about the possibility of future attacks on NS pipelines. In early September US assets seem to detect a submarine. The German led Northern Coast exercise is extended, all possible ships are sent to the sea. Everybody searches for a submarine yet it is able to mine pipelines and escape.

2-4 March 2023 - Sergey Lavrov:

"Germany was humiliated, physically and morally"

"We will not allow to blow up gas pipelines again"

"Russia's energy policy will prioritize dependable and trustworthy partners. India and China are unquestionably among them."

Conclusion:

It looks like the US was against the UK attacking European infrastructure, warned Germany and other European allies, it looks like they were protecting the pipeline, but they failed.

in another words:

The German led Northern Coasts exercise which mission was at very last moment changed to protect the #Nordstream failed.

Note: I got interesting comment on one of my posts (I try to ask questions to top accounts incl. UK DoD, world leaders, offices):

Who posted that?

018 - Sinking ships to Denmark, cutting cables to Germany - The UK has done it in the past

Battle of Copenhagen 1807 replayed in 2022?  + About DK-UK relationships in Nordstream case

SUMMARY:

This blog post delves into the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipeline,
drawing historical parallels to past UK actions against Danish and German infrastructure.

It raises questions about UK involvement
and examines the subsequent diplomatic maneuvers and investigations.

KEY TAKEAWAYS:

Historical Context: The history offers various incidents of suspected UK´s sabotage targeting foreign assets military or civilian, undersea infrastructure, encompassing submarine cables and pipelines. This raises pivotal questions about the identity of the Nordstream perpetrators and their motives. Nord Stream attack may have been inspired by, and/or took into consideration historical UK actions against Danish or German assets, such as the Battle of Copenhagen in 1807 and the cutting of German undersea cables shortly before the start of World War I in 1914. But those were not localized incidents, the UK has reported habitual taste for spearheading its interests through internationally illegal or semi-legal covert actions.

The officials use the characterization of the Nord Stream incident as "sabotage," suggesting it might more accurately be described as "state terrorism," indicating a deliberate choice in terminology. This topic needs to be researched further.

Danish Response: Following the Nord Stream attack, Denmark sought urgent meetings with UK, NATO, and EU officials, with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen traveling to London for a crucial meeting with Liz Truss. This meeting was contrasted with other leaders' virtual discussions, raising suspicions of undisclosed evidence or prior decisions regarding cover-ups.
Analysis of Body Language: Frederiksen's demeanor before and after her meeting has been analyzed for inconsistencies, indicating possible tension regarding the incident.

Terminology Concerns: The consistent use of the term "sabotage" versus "state terrorism" is questioned in the context of the incident's framing in media and political narratives.

Rishi Sunak's 2017 report focusing on the vulnerabilities of undersea cables is presented as vital background information relevant to the context.

017 - Nordstream - Battle Royale: Hersh´s exposé vs Mortymer001´s Hypothesis

PREFACE/ISSUE

The race for the Truth is on!

On the left side unknown challenger nobody knows about
On the right side battle hardened Pulitzer winner

Who will win?
There could be only one winner.

23-02-2023 Recap:

Sy Hersh

Blames governments of USA + NOR + SWE, the evidence so far has some issues, yet his track record is excellent. Does not specify the role of NATO.

Has good taste of music.

Mortymer001

Zero track record, not even a journalist. Nobody.

Anonymous person who started blog to sort out his thoughts.

Possibly solves the case while tweeting about it online.

States that the conclusive key evidence is with Investigators who will not publish for several reasons, starts own investigation meanwhile, puts his skin in game and moves through mountains of documents and data to find a few pins, very promising ones... Then does it.

States a UK as his primary suspect, lists several other individuals with high probability of collaborating in the affair, enabling it.

Distorted music taste from Antwoord to classical music.

Pick your fighter, make your bets, lets roll!

(...heh, or I think I do, but who am I? Investigators/journalists should be looking!)

Yesterday the research gained this gem, but is it a diamond?

Were US and UK explosives teams cooperating in studying the Nordstream Vulnerability in January 2022?

On 19 - 28 Jan 2022 - EXU-1, FBI Host Maritime Post-Blast Investigation Course at NAS Key West

KEY WEST, Fla. - Expeditionary Exploitation Unit 1 (EXU-1) and the FBI’s Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) Section conducted a maritime post-blast investigation course at Naval Air Station (NAS) Key West, Florida, Jan. 19-28.

The U.K. Royal Navy Diving and Threat Exploitation Group (DTXG) and three U.S. Navy explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) teams, including technicians from EXU-1 and EOD Mobile Unit 3collaborated to expand and develop their maritime post-blast exploitation techniques through seven days of classroom coursework, diving, and strategic case study analysis.

The course coordinates the combined response of maritime exploitation capabilities by the Department of Defense, Department of Justice (DOJ), and the U.K. Royal Navy to global maritime explosive attacks from strategic competition in the maritime domain.

In terms of our outlook on current geopolitical events, what helps is having both of our groups looking at the same problem sets. Working together, information exchange is quite easy and prevents numerous delays. We are often in the same places and operating jointly, so our partnership constantly sharpens our skillsets and allows us to be more prepared,” he said. “Different events tie into intelligence gathering which we can all share with each other. That is critical because it allows us to be on the same page with one another before conflict happens. So when conflict does happen, we are all prepared.

[M: No comment. Somebody will have to explain what happened there...]

01 March 2023 - Former British Foreign Secretary William Hague shared the dreams of the West.

In an interview with jokers Vovan and Lexus, who introduced themselves as the former president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko.

"...They will only do this in coordination with USA, Britain OFTEN fulfils a role of strengthening the courage of the USA, strengthening of resolve of USA, but Britain will not change its policy without the USA, without agreement with USA. So the KEY decision is still in Washington..."

[M: Could the view be applied also for the Nordstream affair?]

There are issues with Hersh claim, quite a few actually:

I have found email to Sy Hersh and exchanged with him over 20 emails.
I shared all my data and wrote detailed explanation.

Conclusion

This is not a competition. Nope.

What are the options?
    1. One could be true only, either US or UK behind
    2. Both countries (and perhaps others) were cooperating
    3. Neither one has done it.
    4. Russia has not retaliated so it does not consider it to be "state actors" and them using NATO infrastructure'

      This leads to: WHICH ONE?

How do I see it? Based on what I researched:
  • The UK, rogue, outside NATO, tight slim team.
  • Very long thorough preparations, simulations, strategy, etc.
  • Helped by several corrupted people in key positions (in EU, NATO,..).
  • Informed USA short time before but attack against Nordstream was already irreversible. Got some approval (?) or was not stopped.
  • News show the USA, SWE, DK, GER, PL do not seem to be co-state actors.

Where do You put your bets? What is Your take? Make a comment pls.

QUESTION: Should somebody REALLY look into this?

Is this much dodo about nothing? Why has nobody brought this meeting up yet?

I have explored the UK team here, unfortunately having not time to look into USA teams.

The public has the right to know about this meeting!

Yes?

016 - Tracking Astute class submarines in 2022

PREFACE/ISSUE

In previous posts it was established that UK belongs among suspects. Capabilities of UK Special Boat Services team (SBS) were also explored. But where were Ambush class submarines during 2022?

"The hunt for the Ambush"

#1 - Attack submarines have typically regular deployment intervals.

They deploy for around two months at a time. Submarines can submerge more than 600 feet below the ocean's surface for up to four months at a time, constantly patrolling and working classified missions

#2 - Submarine crew rotation.

One of a submarine's two crews takes the sub- marine to sea for 77 days and then returns it to its home port. Both crews then perform maintenance on the submarine for a 35-day period, after which the second crew takes the submarine to sea for 77 days before returning it to the home port for further maintenance.

Submarine spotters and other sub news

2 March 2022 - Royal Navy divers create elite mission teams to meet evolving needs

7 March 2022 - Boris Johnson says we can’t close down use of Russian oil and gas overnight

5 May 2022 - A strange message to Boris Johnson and V. Zelenski appeared on Twitter on his timeline.

29 April 2022 - First British Nuclear Submarine Docking in Tromsø - Ambush S120

29 March 2022 - Royal Marines launch commando raid from Astute class submarine during Arctic exercise (most likely RN HMS S120 Ambush).

Commodore Jim Perks, the head of the RN Submarine Service, said:

“The ability to operate undetected for significant periods of time with top quality kit ensures that a submarine remains a formidable delivery mechanism, in this case enabling the covert deployment of the Surveillance and Reconnaissance team as showcased in the exercises off Norway. Our ability to work together highlights the remarkable attributes of the team and the platforms in which we operate.

[M: Could this mean that they trained to be in sub with extra people for extended time? Like perhaps going to Baltic Sea undetected and then doing some "job"? Perhaps?]

The training is a small but important phase of the Cold Response 2022 exercise – proved the usefulness of using submarines to access strategically important areas with small teams of highly-trained specialists without being detected.

26 July 2022 - Celebrated head of the Royal Navy’s Submarine Service retires.

Taking over from Commodore Perks is Commodore Dunn who himself has a wealth of submarine experience stretching back to 1989 when he joined the Royal Navy aged just 18 and volunteered for service on submarines.

During his career Commodore Dunn has served with HMS Courageous, HMS Sovereign, HMS Turbulent, HMS Superb, and HMS Vengeance (Port) and has commanded HMS Vigilant.

He has also spent time on shore as Assistant Staff Officer Operations at Clyde, with Fleet Operational Sea (Submarines), with the Maritime Warfare Centre as head of underwater warfare pillar, and with the operations team of the Naval Staff within the MOD.

He also served in Bahrain as Staff Operations Officer with the UK Maritime Component’s Headquarters and in the US as UK Liaison Officer to US Strategic Command.

His most recent post was as Head of Nuclear Planning in the Director General Nuclear Organisation.

[M: Was this planned retirement or did Perks disagree with the plan? /speculating]

[M: The new person has somehow very well matching qualification would UK consider attacking RU asset, best hands-on to nuclear response scenarios.]

16 June 2022 - Royal Navy's cutting-edge £1.3bn submarine takes to Mediterranean for first NATO mission

The submarine was formally commissioned in September 2021. It joined its sister vessels – HMS Astute, Ambush and Artful – on the front line for the first time in January, spending months in the depths of the North Atlantic and Mediterranean.

Fresh from its deployment to the Arctic, in which it carried out a number of missions including sub-surface stealth raids with Royal Marines Commandos, sister submarine HMS Ambush joined Audacious as it limbered up for full operations off the Scottish coast. The two submarines went head to head in underwater battles in a range of warfare scenarios.

[M: Training a shadow fight would Project 877–class: Kilo (Black hole) RU submarine appear in near future? "The submarines do particularly well in shallow water, where a pair of ducted props powered by low-speed motoring motors likely allows it to operate closer to the sea floor."]

2 August 2022 - Boris visits Portsmouth Naval Base

...to see Royal Navy’s state-of-the-art mine clearing team in action

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has visited the Diving & Threat Exploitation Group (DTXG) at the Defence Diving School, Horsea Island this week.

All Navy clearance divers and Army divers carry out their basic training at the school’s headquarters on Horsea Island on the north shore of Portsmouth Harbour.

The facilities are first class and include a 1,000m (1km) salt water lake, a 5m diving tank, recompression chambers, surface and underwater engineering facilities, classrooms, conference rooms, catering facilities and a specialist diving clothing store.

Royal Navy divers were rebranded and rebrigaded to form new small, elite mission teams earlier this year, able to deal with the latest threats, in the biggest shake-up since 1996

Based in Portsmouth, Plymouth and Faslane, Royal Navy Divers can be called to a range of tasks, including explosive disposal of historic ordnance and the rendering safe of improvised explosive devices around the UK as well as clearing sea mines in the world’s seas and oceans and deterring terrorists across the globe.

The recent changes have enabled these elite diving teams to be able to carry out more missions while also continuing training with NATO and other allies on global exercises.

This year they will deploy to the United States, France, Norway and Iceland as well as continue their presence in the Middle East alongside partner nations and deployed ships, such as Type 23 frigate HMS Montrose, minehunters Middleton, Bangor, Chiddingfold and Penzance and RFA support ship Lyme Bay.

Able Seaman (Diver) Sanderson, of Delta Squadron said:

"This new way of working means we aren't remaining static and we're moving with the times.

"My unit started evolving last year but it's good to see the second phase coming into play now and the new opportunities that come with that.

"We are expanding on what we can currently do, while looking at the future roles we can play within the fleet. With the navy undergoing changes, it's important we remain relevant and this transformation shows we can have significant impact."

[M: Note that the DTXG team is on both in Portsmouth and Faslane/Clyde bases. The big restructuring happened just lately on 1st March 2022.]

[M: Deployed in Norway, I suppose on this Arctic exercise training sailing from the submarine toward the shore. I can imagine a scenario in which this handy skill could be used. More about Cold Response.]

Politicians love of submarine forces

5 Aug 2022 - Liz Truss visits Portsmouth at Queens Hotel, Southsea on Friday 5th August 2022.

31 Aug 2022 - Boris Johnson to visit nuclear submarine yard in latest stop on PM's farewell tour

6 Sept 2022 - Letters of last resort: PM’s early task to write to UK’s nuclear sub commanders

One of Liz Truss’s early tasks will be to write instructions by hand to each of Britain’s four nuclear submarine commanders, directing them how to respond in the event of an all-out attack that will have killed her and destroyed the UK. They are known as the letters of last resort.

But first, Truss will receive a briefing from Britain’s military chiefs on how the Trident nuclear deterrent operates – including the likely military and human consequences of authorising a retaliatory strike.

It is not necessary for Truss to write the letters immediately after the briefing; the new prime minister has time to reflect. The existing letters, written by Boris Johnson, can remain in force, most obviously for the submarine currently out at sea – at least one must be on patrol at all times for the nuclear deterrent to remain continuous.

The Cold Response and Norweigean Poseidon P-8 plane

NOR flight data vs Astute subs spotting.

Info is scarce, this is available, just a few picks:

2 Jun 2022 - NOR, The new maritime patrol aircraft P-8 Poseidon, Saint66 9586 Munin

It took off from Evenes for the first time. Training trip over Bliksvær outside Bodø and return over Andøya and down to Evenes for practice landing inserts. Video - Flight Data on Norwegian Air Force P8s

24 August 2022 - Poseidon P8 practicing shark hunting off the coast of Norway.

29 Sept 2022 - UK: Royal Navy Vanguard class submarine passing Gourock today inbound for Faslane

Where were other Astute class subs in 2022?

29 October 2021 - HMS Astute in Perth

April 2022 - HMS Audacious was in Gibraltar

16 June 2022 - HMS Audacious Completes 1st NATO Patrol In Mediterranean

16 June 2022 -  HMS Audacious has conducted NATO maritime security patrols in the Mediterranean on her maiden operational deployment.

HMS Audacious has completed her second Mediterranean patrol, conducting maritime security operations for the UK and her NATO allies, say the Royal Navy.

The boat – normally based at Faslane on the Clyde, but operating out of NATO’s base in Souda Bay, Crete, for the past six months – has been working alongside NATO surface ships on Operation Sea Guardian, monitoring tankers and cargo vessels.

31 August 2022 - Royal Navy commissioned the 5th Astute-class nuclear-powered hunter-killer submarine, HMS Anson, with a ceremony held in Barrow on 31 August 2022.

2 September 2022 - HMS Audacious has completed her second Mediterranean patrol, conducting maritime security operations for the UK and her NATO allies, say the Royal Navy.

After six months of near continuous operations, Audacious returned to Souda Bay to undergo maintenance – not just on the hi-tech sensors and systems inside the boat, but her hull as well.

Specialist divers were flown out from the UK, running over the entire length of the submarine’s 97-metre-long hull with what is effectively a giant, heavy duty dental hygienist’s tooth polisher – the bristles on the brushes strong enough to sweep away barnacles, but not too firmly that the black tiles which cover Audacious and are key to her stealth are not damaged or dislodged.

[M: Why would a sub do this after the 6m of operation when it goes to home port unless it wants to be clean and ready for the new mission? Previously I thought bigger suspect was Ambush but it may be S122 HMS Audacious as well]

Other assets on the seas

Based on data provided by campaign group Nukewatch, the investigative journalism website, The Ferret, revealed on November 6 that two Trident-equipped Vanguard-class submarines went out on patrol for 157 days in 2022. The Nukewatch has been keeping tabs on the movements of Vanguard-class submarines in Clyde throughout 2022. The report said that one sub was at sea from January 1 to June 6, 2022, and another from May 31 to November 3, 2022.

[M: It makes sense that the state actor would have other critical assets on the sea to deter RU response]

8 Nov 2022 -  British nuclear-armed sub resurfaces after fire onboard

A Royal Navy nuclear-armed submarine had to abandon its mission and resurface, after a fire broke out onboard following an electrical fault.

The Ministry of Defence said the incident on HMS Victorious happened six weeks ago.

[M: 8th of November minus 6 weeks = 27-09-2022, NS bombing = 26-09-2022]

To have a buddy saves time:

I asked him to: "Show me chain of command in UK  Royal Navy from monarch to Commodore Jim Perks, the head of the RN Submarine Service"

The chain of command in the Royal Navy from the Monarch to Commodore Jim Perks, the head of the Royal Navy Submarine Service, would be as follows:
    • The King/Queen: The ultimate authority of the Armed Forces is the monarch, who is the Commander-in-Chief.

    • Secretary of State for Defence: The Secretary of State for Defence is responsible for the overall direction and control of the Armed Forces.

    • Chief of the Defence Staff: The Chief of the Defence Staff is the professional head of the Armed Forces and is responsible for the strategic direction and management of the Defence establishment.

    • First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff: This is the professional head of the Royal Navy and is responsible for the fighting effectiveness, efficiency, and morale of the Naval Service.

    • Fleet Commander: The Fleet Commander is responsible for the management of the Royal Navy's deployed and non-deployed assets, including submarines.

    • Flag Officer Submarines: The Flag Officer Submarines is responsible for the command, control, and organization of all Royal Navy submarines.

    • Commodore: A Commodore is a senior officer who may command a flotilla, squadron, or group of ships or submarines.
Commodore Jim Perks: As the head of the Royal Navy Submarine Service, Commodore Perks is responsible for the command and control of all Royal Navy submarines.

QUESTION:

Is it theoretically possible that UK as a state actor could be a suspect?

How long would validation, preparation, etc need to take 1/2y or a year?

If a UK submarine was involved, that means training.

Could these news on this post mean something?
