Post explored from this important meeting:
18 Sept 2022 - USA/NOR: The Minister of Defense visits the United States 18.-21. September Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp) travels to the USA.
On Monday 19 September, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Minister of Defense Bjørn Arild Gram will visit the US Navy's 2nd Fleet and NATO's operational command (Joint Force Command) in Norfolk, USA. They will also meet soldiers aboard the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford.
After Norfolk, the Minister of Defense will continue to Washington DC. Among other things, he will meet his American colleague Lloyd Austin in the Pentagon on Tuesday 20 September.
The security policy situation we find ourselves in now is serious and has changed rapidly. That is why it is more important than ever to engage in close dialogue with close allies, says Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp).
[MRT: The visit has a significance for the Nordstream affair. Data point to intelligence sharing, from Norway directly to USA about a top security concern, which rose suddenly and needed immediate action. Norway was seeking special security bilateral guarantees over those of NATO Article 5. This, in light of the attack on Nordstream in a week, could mean (logically) that it was about a NATO member mission to destroy Nordstream which could destabilize the region. Norway felt vulnerable as the Article 5 would not apply i this case. More about it here: Was Norway briefing USA about possible threat to undersea pipeline infrastructure on 19-09-2022? Note the place for those talks - the most secure place for series of meetings with Del Toro - a new US Carrier anchored on the see, not in NATO HQ, or even in US Navy HQ for Atlantic in Norfolk or other place. Meetings are described in this post: What happens in Norfolk stays in Norfolk - A series of strategic meetings aboard USS Ford on 19-09-2022. Later issue escalated to Pentagon. On 21-09-2022 the USA started to send to Baltic sea own submarine hunting Poseidon P-8A planes: The Poseidon P8A submarine hunting aircraft flights from 21-09-2022 to 26-09-2022 and the "Sepecial relationship between USA and UK was put on ice as described here. Shortly aftr the USA withdrew Kearsarge group from Baltic sea as the area was getting hot and USA was worrying about getting drawn into next European conflict: here]
Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp) is traveling to the USA on 18 September to, among other things, meet his colleague Lloyd Austin in the Pentagon. Gram is also going to Norfolk to visit the US Navy.
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III and Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram engage in a bilateral exchange at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., Sept. 20, 2022.
[MRT: Norway was able to assess on 27th, just a day after the Nordstream was damaged that there was no threat to Denmark. Post: The Norwegian Defense Intelligence Service assesses that there is no increased military threat to Denmark This would be impossible IF Russia was considered a suspect. Logically only a knowlwdge of who has done it and why, knowing the action of main actors - how USA would react to the situation COULD explain this statement. Note that Norway has already increased its own security level before supposedly due to drones too near offshore installations as described here:Norway - Drones or Seagulls? Later these were downgraded to seagulls.]
[MRT: Actually the date is wrong, it happened 20-09-2022 after Gram and NOR PM visited Norfolk.]
The two men discussed issues affecting both NATO and the bilateral relations between the two countries during a Pentagon meeting today.
[MRT: An ad-hoc meeting about intelligence shared with USA first in Norofolk, then in Pentagon which affects NATO and bilateral relations of Norway and the USA. What could that be just 6 days before Nordstream pipelines are blown up?]
The meeting comes just two weeks after the two defense leaders met as part of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting at Ramstein Air Base, Germany...
[MRT: The data of this hypothesis point that the knowledge by Norway about the (most likely) mission to destroy Nordstream was intercepted by Norway after the NATO meeting in Germany but before the meeting in Norfolk. This post explores known events which happened before affecting both NOR Defence minister and Prime minister - here]
Gram thanked Austin for his personal leadership in the effort to supply Ukraine, and for his efforts to examine the strategic importance of the Arctic.
"The United States and Norway are working closely together on intelligence, maritime surveillance, pre-positioning material and reinforcement of forces, as well as training and exercises in all domains," Gram said.
[MRT: NOR PM spoke about a "war economy" on 15-09-2022. There was a threat of a war, conflict or some kind of crisis happening shortly.]
03:25 min video: "...The North Atlantic and the Arctic is gaining strategic importance and the United States and Norway, are working closely together on intelligence, maritime surveillance, repositioning of material and reinforcement of forces, training and exercise. It´s important close cooperation,... the World is becoming a more dangerous place,... Democracy needs to prepare for longer confrontation beyond the war in Ukraine..."
[MRT: World became very close to escalation after the attack on Nordstream pipelines just a few days later on 26-09-2022.]
The leaders discussed the strength of our bilateral defense relationship and ongoing work to support Ukraine. They discussed shared security interests in Europe, the Arctic, and across the globe, and bilateral and NATO efforts to advance them.
[MRT: Looks like there was some kind of intelligence sharing about the upcoming attack on Nordstream. Post here: NOR - FIN - SWE - GER - RU - LIT - USA were simultaneously preparing for a hybrid attacks from a hidden actor. Norway was the first to react to some undisclosed threat and later helped to manage the event. See also the Prague summit and the role of Norway: "The Prague Summit & possible cover-up of Nordstream affair". It is possible that the threat was known before and that the rogue submarine/minisub was operating in the area earlies: Did the Dutch NH90 and US HM-60R detect and stop Nord Stream's first mining attempt in early September?]
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III welcomed Norwegian Minister for Defence Bjørn Arild Gram to the Pentagon.
The leaders discussed the strength of our bilateral defense relationship and ongoing work to support Ukraine. They discussed shared security interests in Europe, the Arctic, and across the globe, and bilateral and NATO efforts to advance them. The two leaders look forward to further bilateral cooperation.
[MRT: A NATO member is the Nordstream suspect. This hypothesis points to the UK. Logically Norway flies directly to USA and is not handling the case inside Europe as it is too small and less powerful compared to the UK, France and Germany. The NOR chooses top-down management of the issue with objective to ensure own security as NATO could be inefficient would a clash happen between the UK and Russia.]
Secretary Austin and Minister Gram exchanged views on the Russian Federation’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine. Secretary Austin reaffirmed U.S. support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and thanked Minister Gram for Norway’s substantial contribution to Ukrainian security.
[MRT: Ukrainian issue has not been the priority for such high level meetings, they are handled through different channels. There were no significant known changes in the Ukrainian-Russian conflict to affect security of Arctics.]
The two also touched on threats to Arctic Security from Russia. Both agreed that the Arctic is a region that is growing in geostrategic importance.
[MRT: It is undesirable that the conflict could spill over to other areas. Tis is confirmed by Jens Stoltenberg as described in this post: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg - another type of escalation - escalation beyond Ukraine ]
Secretary Austin thanked Minister Gram for Norway’s approval of the Supplementary Defense Cooperation agreement, which will provide substantive projects that will increase bilateral security cooperation, particularly in the Arctic.
"Supplementary Defense Cooperation Agreement (SDCA) will facilitate more rapid and effective deployment of reinforcements to Norway from the US in the event of a war or crisis."
[MRT: As a reaction to a new threat in form of war or crisis Norway just closed in a fast track without much public fanfare and discussion a SDCA. Why? Note this another Norwegian´s statement here]
...I'm also mindful of the crucial role that Norway plays as NATO's eyes and ears in the Arctic...
[MRT: What kind of maritime intel Norway seen and hear with their Poseidon flights? Perhaps a submarine/submersible/minisub approaching Baltic Sea? Perhaps they connected dots after the CIA June´s warning about threats to Nordstream pipelines? Did USA had its own intel from the Baltic sea? Post here]
Your support - or you support the entire alliance with efforts like Exercise Cold Response, which wrapped up its ninth edition this March.
So Mr. Minister, thanks for all you're doing for our shared security and thanks again for making the trip and I look forward to a great discussion.
[MRT: The Gram´s trip was about shared security which had to be handled in person on the very top level.]
[MRT: The day after Gram´s meeting there is a discussion with senior enlisted leaders about? Note that about the same time this happens in Europe: Did the United States notify its allies on September 21st that it was removing its naval assets from the Baltic Sea?]
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III called Danish Minister for Defence Morten Bødskov today to discuss the recent Nord Stream pipeline explosions near the Danish island of Bornholm. Secretary Austin offered his full support to Denmark as it begins to investigate the explosions. The United States remains committed to Baltic Sea Security and its longstanding Ally, Denmark.
[MRT: Note that the US fleet has left the Baltic sea before the Nordstream event as described here: The USS Task Force 61/2 deployment in the Baltic sea during September 2022]
I called Danish 🇩🇰 Minister of Defence @mfMorten today about the Nord Stream pipeline explosions. I offered my full support to Denmark and reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to Baltic Sea security. We’ll continue working closely as this situation develops.
[MRT: The USA is proactively managing the crisis as predicted on 20th of September, Norway closed supplementary agreement for the case "...in the event of a war or crisis..."]
I was excited to see some of the latest innovations in unmanned underwater and unmanned surface vehicles at @MCASMiramarCA this morning.
[MRT: USA checking own capability. Note that there was just a NATO REMPUS exercise in Portugal. What was the purpose of this visit?]
[MRT: Only Russia and Ukrain were calling the Nordstream attack a Terrorism by a state. The UK laer changed the framing into a "sabotage". Who said what is described in this post here.]
The other thing that you've heard us say over and over again is that the United States is absolutely committed to its Article 5 commitments and we are committed to defending every inch of NATO’s territory if and when it comes to that.
[MRT: Legally the Nord stream 2 AG is a Russian project fully owned by Gazprom incorporated in Switzerland in which same companies who are partners of NS1 provided loans in 49%. The attack could be considered a "causus belli" and Act of War against Russia. See The Definition, Severity and Accountability of the Nordstream Affair]
Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III to NATO Headquarters on Thursday (13 October 2022) for meetings of Allied Defence Ministers.
Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed US Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III to NATO Headquarters on Thursday (13 October 2022) for meetings of Allied Defence Ministers. Mr Stoltenberg thanked Secretary Austin for his strong personal leadership, as well as the US’ steadfast commitment to the Alliance, and its powerful support to Ukraine.
[The NATO´s "Defence and deter" posture is preventing any retaliatory action by Russia in their right to respond to the attack on its asset. The uSA withdrew its fleet from the Baltic Sea leaving there just one whip to monitor the reaction of Russian forces as the event unfolded DDG 117 - USS Paul Ignatius in Baltic sea in September 2022 the ship was sending daily Strike Hawks helicopter to collect data The #VVHG725 #AE4FE2 USN MH-60R Strike Hawk after Kearsarge left Baltic Sea]
The leaders reaffirmed the strength of the trilateral relationship, enhanced by Finland and Sweden's ongoing accession process into NATO.
[MRT: Confirming that the NATO has not changed and that the roadmap to enter is not changed by one country attacking Russian key infrastructure]
The leaders also discussed the impact of the Nord Stream pipeline explosions and the importance of resilience, as well as other security issues in the Nordic region and the Arctic.
[MRT: A conflict/war/crisis could be sparked would Russia retaliate and both Baltic sea and Nordic region in whole could become a battlefield. The attack on Nordstream has direct implication to North sea which indirectly excludes (among other vast evidence) that Ukraine was the main perpetrator.]
Readout of Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III's Address to the Bucharest-Nine Defense MinisterialSecretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III met with counterparts from the Bucharest Nine (B-9) Countries – Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia.
Secretary Austin affirmed that the United States stands united with its Central European Allies and that the United States' commitment to defending NATO territory is ironclad.
[MRT: After the Norway delivered the ontel to the USA their reaction was to leave the Baltic sea, send there daily its own anti submarine asset Poseidon P-8A all the way from US mainland, through Iceland, instead of using other assets, including those of UK´s, as the TRUST in between NATO members has been fractured. The USA in fact opted for own security, watched from sidelines, let the event happen (passive, no news about actively trying to stop the UK) and then protected the perpetrator by strengthening the NATO article 5, de-escalating before the event: The USA de-escalates possible Russian nuclear response even before Nordstream is hit, NATO protect Trans-Atlantic alliance afterwards and then just before the event happened 25 Sept 2022 - Blinken on a potential U.S. response to nuclear weapons | 60 Minutes (despite Blinken´s own dead just passed away this weekend)]
Secretary Austin reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to deterring Russian aggression against NATO Allies. The two leaders also discussed the ongoing efforts to ensure NATO’s credible deterrence and defense posture.
[MRT: aka Protecting the perpetrator by shielding it with NATO´s Article 5. But first the USA left the Baltic sea preferring own national security over that of its allies.]
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III met UK Secretary of State for Defence Ben Wallace today at the Pentagon to reaffirm the U.S.-UK defense relationship across a wide range of shared defense and security priorities, including Ukraine.
[MRT: The "special US-UK relationship" was paused just before the Nordstream was attacked, shortly after the meeting with Norwegians: About the UK-USA "special relationship]
Their meeting today was a continuation of their discussions at NATO defence ministerial meetings in Brussels last week.
[MRT: The UK is the prime suspect of the sabotage/terrorist act against Nordstream pipelines.]
They discussed ongoing efforts to support Ukraine, including through the provision of security assistance, and the importance of transatlantic cooperation and regional security in light of Russia’s continued brutal attack on Ukraine.
[MRT: The UK was shielded by the NATO Deter and defence Article 5 umbrella, but could that hold forever? Liz Truss by approving the mission may have severely fractured the alliance. The attack has not been a joint effort which is also confirmed by the SWE main investogator Mats Ljungquist that only one state was suspected in all blasts: Investigations, Sweden: Mats Ljungqvist - the Swedish investigator ]
Wallace 00:19:31, NORAD, 00:28:50
Defense Department Spokesperson Brigadier General Pat Ryder briefed reporters at the Pentagon on Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. He said Secretary Austin met that morning with his British counterpart, Ben Wallace, to discuss the war and security assistance.
[MRT: There is some evidence hinting that the UK has potentially transferred some nuclear material into Ukraine and a false flag has been planned. The speculation is that Liz Truss has broken the Non Proliferation Treaty and that has been the real reason why she has been fired, see TRUSS and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and How Powerful were UK Nuclear Weapons? which hints that Belgian-US company providing integral key part of US nuclear detterrence, put ban on export of centrifuges used in nuclear weapons system as a result of the UK´s rogue mission.]
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke by phone today with Turkish Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar to reaffirm the wide range of shared interests between the United States and Türkiye. This call was a continuation of the leaders' meeting at the NATO Defense Ministerial in Brussels last week. They discussed the importance of regional stability and reviewed ongoing defense cooperation.
[MRT: Why the need to discuss regional stability and the ongoing defense cooperation? Did some fundamentals change?]
The Defence Secretary and Lloyd Austin, the US secretary of defence, met at the Pentagon after Mr Wallace cancelled a planned appearance in front of a committee of MPs.
[MRT: UK officials love to play Hide and Seek, ]
...to discuss support for Ukraine and the serious security threat Russia poses to Europe, the United States, and the world. We are committed to standing with Ukraine against Russia’s aggression.
[MRT: The attack on the Nordstream (NS2 fully owned by Gazprom in which the majority stake has the RU state) could have been legally considered as a "causus beli" - a reason for a war. A thrown glove Russia refused to pick. Definitions described Security Law: Guidelines for Grey Zone Naval Incidents], The Definition, Severity and Accountability of the Nordstream Affair, Security Law: Did an Alleged Ukrainian Attack against the Nord Stream Pipelines Violate the Law of Armed Conflict?]
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has gone to Washington, like Mr Smith in the movie, this time on unscheduled and urgent business.
[MRT: An ad-hoc meeting to the top-dog of international relations]
Three days of meetings at the Pentagon and White House will focus on the dramatic turning point in the Ukraine war and the scary possibilities of what Russia might do next.
[MRT: What sort of issues could take 3 days? Consequences of Nordstream affair COULD be just that.]
President Biden’s top team of security and defence officials will want to know what Britain, and its European allies, plan to do next to maintain support for the Kyiv government and mitigate a range of threats across the region.
[MRT: If the issue who blew uo Nordstream gets to surface the public could demand the stop of the war and exit from NATO.]
The team of Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan and Lloyd Austin will want to know about the future shape of Britain’s security and strategic capabilities — and whether more cuts are on the way.
[MRT: aka the scenario of NATO breakup after one of its member went rogue and hit on Russian asset Nord stream 2 AG.]
An urgent defence review is coming — a new version of the Integrated Review (IR) and the defence blueprint, the Defence Command Paper of last year, are to be delivered within weeks.
An update is essential: so much has changed since March 2021. The new blueprint must be more practical and less aspirational than the IR — much less of the blue skies of “the tilt to the Pacific” and more practical focus on the needs of security, resilience and defence at home and in the near neighbourhood. It must explain to a sceptical public and confused political class the real need for a workable security and strategic posture for troubled times.
[MRT: The UK is a prime suspect, the rogue state actor behind the Nordstream affair.]
On October 21, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III spoke by phone with Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Shoygu. Secretary Austin emphasized the importance of maintaining lines of communication amid the ongoing war against Ukraine.
[MRT: similar thing happened in the past. The UK was trying to keep communication open just on 26-09-2022 as the Nordstream affair has erupted.]
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu on Sunday (October 23) called up his counterparts in the US, UK, France and Turkiye on Sunday (October 23) and discussed the situation in Ukraine.
[MRT: These countries are nuclear powers or in case of Turkey host them.]
Shoigu discussed the situation in Ukraine on a phone call with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin, said Russian defence ministry. This was the second call in three days between the US and Russian defence ministers.
Prior to his call to Austin, Shoigu also spoke with his counterparts in UK, Turkiye and France.
[MRT: The first call seems to be done with the UK.]
Stoltenberg said he had a call with U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and his British counterpart, Ben Wallace, on the matter Monday.
[MRT: The cross call was Jens Stoltenberg and the UK´s Ben Wallace. In the first set of calls the USA was the last to be approached hence it was not about them. There are no news that Jens Stoltenberg spoke with France and Turkey, only with UK and the USA. It is possible to deduct that the main counterparty and the issue was between Russia and the UK.]
Meanwhile, the head of Russia's nuclear, biological and chemical protection troops, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, in a media briefing said Russian forces are "preparing to work under radioactive contamination."
[MRT: the real action o protect troops would not come without a reason, it is costly, note that the USA itself was preparing in this area and made investment into anti radiation pills in a fast track just at the end of September and trained on its carriers before the event happened -/future post/]
U.S. officials said Monday there is currently no indication that Moscow has made any efforts to use a dirty bomb or nuclear weapons.
"We continue to see nothing in the way of preparations by the Russian side for the use of nuclear weapons," White House national security spokesperson John Kirby told reporters.
[MRT: Yet there is no mention if another actor has been active in this area, like for example Truss.]
"The situation in Ukraine, which has a steady tendency towards further, uncontrolled escalation, was discussed," by Shoigu and French Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu, the ministry said.
[MRT: There will be a separate post about S. Lecornu soon.]
Later on Sunday, the ministry said Shoigu held phone calls with his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar and UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace.
[MRT: France is a nuclear power. Turkey hosts US nukes and the UK is also a nuclear power. These news hide some merit. TRUSS and the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). It is possible that she was fired for this and not for the ]
In the three calls, Shoigu conveyed "concerns about possible provocations by Ukraine with the use of a 'dirty bomb'".
[MRT: The issue may be confirmed by consequences rather than the direct evidence: How Powerful were UK Nuclear Weapons?]
Britain's defence ministry said in a statement that Wallace "refuted" claims that Western countries sought to help Ukraine escalate the conflict and "cautioned that such allegations should not be used as a pretext for greater escalation".
It added that the call was requested by the Russian side.
Shoigu also discussed Ukraine on Sunday with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin in their second phone call since Friday, however the Russian side did not mention the alleged "dirty bomb" provocation in its statement.
[MRT: Breaking the NPT may have been swept under the carpet. Any open issue in this area could be encouraging for other actors. IF so then both Russia and the USA have acted as responsible nuclear powers.]
"Let us always ensure that the most dangerous weapons ever produced by human science are managed with the greatest responsibility ever produced by human government." Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III
[MRT: The infamous de-escalation Red Phone: Nordstream affair - Does this mean the red phone is working again?. This post supports the view that the rogue actor, the perpetrator has not been the USA but another state and that there is bigger cooperation between two key nuclear states.]
Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III oversaw the ceremony and told the audience that the command is adjusting to face new challenges.
