018 - Sinking ships to Denmark, cutting cables to Germany - The UK has done it in the past

PREFACE/ISSUE

Investigators often look at history of suspects and check the "character evidence"

  • Was the attack against Nordstsream inspired by that old story all Danish people know or should know?

  • Denmark takes a leading stage in how the EU´s response is shaped and how the information flow is managed.

  • Was the state actor inspired by the past when UK destroyed its main competitor´s on European land - Germany - its pipelines?

Battle of Copenhagen 1807 replayed in 2022?  + About DK-UK relationships in Nordstream case

History repeating

I. The 1st time the UK has preventively attacked Denmark

to counter Russian influence on European mainland

The Second Battle of Copenhagen (or the Bombardment of Copenhagen) (16 August – 7 September 1807) was a British bombardment of the Danish capital, Copenhagen, in order to capture or destroy the Dano-Norwegian fleet during the Napoleonic Wars. The incident led to the outbreak of the Anglo-Russian War of 1807, which ended with the Treaty of Örebro in 1812.

During the night of 21/22 July, Canning received intelligence from Tilsit that Napoleon had tried to persuade Alexander I of Russia to form a maritime league with Denmark and Portugal against Britain. Spencer Perceval, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, wrote a memorandum setting out the government's case for sending forces to Copenhagen: "The intelligence from so many and such various sources" that Napoleon's intent was to force Denmark into war against Britain could not be doubted. "Nay, the fact that he has openly avowed such intention in an interview with the Emperor of Russia is brought to this country in such a way as it cannot be doubted. Under such circumstances it would be madness, it would be idiotic... to wait for an overt act".

Historian Hilary Barnes notes that Canning had no knowledge of the secret articles of the Treaty of Tilsit. He argues that Canning's decision was "rash, calamitous, and lacking in understanding of the Danes and of Danish foreign policy."

II. The 1st time the UK has destroyed undersea infrastructure

Britain cuts German Cable Communications 5 August 1914

In the early hours of 5 August 1914, only a few hours after war was declared, Britain carried out something that seemed to be minor, but was actually vital. A British cable ship severed five German overseas underwater cables, which passed from Emden through the English Channel to Vigo, Tenerife, the Azores and the USA

This cut direct German communications to outside Europe, most significantly to the United States. The British could now intercept German signals to their embassies. They were sent in code, but British codebreakers were eventually able to read them.

Most significantly, Britain intercepted the Zimmerman Telegram, sent to the German Ambassador to Mexico. If the USA went to war with Germany, he was to offer the Mexicans an alliance with the promise that they would receive Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. Its revelation helped to push the USA into war with Germany.

[M: This smells like a Character evidence, the state has done similar actions in the past]

[M: Credit for this report/info/data goes to @BillyBostickson]

[M: Interesting that Rishi Sunak wrote this paper about destroying pipelines (UK owned but data could be used in reverse)]

 2017 - Undersea Cables - Indispensable, insecure

Cables Have Inadequate Protection in International Law - pg.16

[M: Interesting that Rishi Sunak became member of the Truss Foreign Policy and Security Council (FPSC) established 3 Days before the Nordstream attack - was this some kind of "soft coup" in UK?]

III. Which are false flags and which were real?

13 Oct 2022 - Russia detains saboteurs trying to blow up TurkStream

A Russian-Turkish project has been subjected to sabotage as attacks continue on Russia's energy infrastructure.

The Russian authorities have detained several saboteurs as they were trying to sabotage and blow up a part of the TurkStream pipeline that is on Russian territory, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

22 Sept 2022 - Russia Says It Thwarted Attack on Energy Link to Turkey, EU

Russia’s security service said it thwarted a planned Ukrainian attack on infrastructure delivering energy to Turkey and Europe -- a claim Kyiv denied.

21 Oct 2022 - Several submarine cables in the south of France were cut

Several submarine cables in the south of France were cut overnight, affecting the internet around the world. It is likely the work of Russian submarine saboteurs, but investigators have so far found no evidence of the country’s involvement in the damage.

At least three fiber optic cables were cut in southern France on Wednesday evening, October 19, slowing internet access for users in Europe, Asia, and the US. Cloud companies promptly repaired the highway.

According to a report by cloud security company Zscaler, the unexpected cable damage resulted in packet loss and increased latency for websites and applications traveling along the affected paths. The company identified three faulty circuits: Marseille-Lyon, Marseille-Milan and Marseille-Barcelona. Zscaler made adjustments to internet traffic routing where possible to mitigate the issue. Search operations to identify damaged sections of the submarine cable are still ongoing.

24 Oct 2022 - Fiber-optic Submarine Cable near Faroe and Shetland Islands Damaged; Mediterranean Cables also Cut

Damage to subsea communication cables near the Faroe and Shetlands Islands left much of the islands without internet access. Subsea fiber-optics cables in the south of France were also cut in what authorities call acts of sabotage.

IV. The European Key infrastructure is attacked in Danish and Swedish Exclusive Economic Zones

On Monday, Sept 26, incidents occurred simultaneously on two Russian export gas pipelines to Europe two gas leaks were discovered at Nord Stream and one at Nord Stream 2 near Bornholm Island.

EUS registered 2 tremors in the Baltic Sea on the night of Monday 26 September at 02.03 & at 19.03, both Danish summer time.

 * Some time between 26 - 30 Sept 2022

 Denmark requests an urgent meeting

with UK, NATO and EU officials

on highest level which is granted *

V. The first assessment

26 Sept 2022 "It is now the clear assessment by authorities that these are deliberate actions. It was not an accident," Mette Frederiksen  told journalists.
(Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in London)

[M: The only new is that this as a deliberate act, no news if sabotage or a terrorist act]

[M: At some point somebody starts to promote that this was not a terrorist act but a sabotage. When? Who? and Why?]

VI. The first trip is to London meets Liz Truss

27 Sept 2022 - DK announcement the following day

"Statsministeriet indkalder til doorstep foran glasdøren til Statsministeriet tirsdag den 27. september klokken 20.00 om situationen ved Nord Stream 1 og 2."

30 Sept 2022 - DK announcement for meetings in London and Brussels:

[M: There is no date on this announcement, had to be between 27th and 30th of September. Note that Mette Frederiksen flies only to meet Liz Truss to London but with other state heads/PMs conducts only web calls. Then she travels to Brussels. btw, thanks for the translation to the twitter user I find/add later.]

30 Sept 2022 - The Prime Minister ok DK travels to London and Brussels
to discuss the destruction on Nord Stream 1 and 2 (read link)

Translation: "Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will meet on Saturday 1 October with British Prime Minister Liz Truss in London and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the President of the European Council Charles Michel in Brussels..."

The Prime Minister travels to London and Brussels to discuss the destruction on Nord Stream 1 and 2

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen will meet on Saturday 1 October with British Prime Minister Liz Truss in London and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the President of the European Council Charles Michel in Brussels. Both the EU and NATO have issued statements in the wake of the damage to Nord Stream 1 and 2.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen states:

"The government views the damage to Nord Stream 1 and 2 with the utmost seriousness. It is about the entire infrastructure of Europe, but of course the seriousness is especially felt here, as the incidents happened in our immediate area. I am in close dialogue with our partners to discuss the situation and ensure close cooperation. Among other things, how we will better protect our European energy infrastructure going forward.”

The trips to London and Brussels follow talks with a number of heads of state and government, including a video conference with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, the Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre, and the Swedish Prime Minister, Magdalena Andersson, who leads the Swedish transitional government .

There is limited space for media. For requests for accreditation for London (Downing Street 10) and Brussels respectively, send an email to presse@stm.dk no later than 19.00 today, September 30.

[M: This looks like a very urgent and not pre-planned meeting. Note that her trip is ONLY to UK, to meet Liz Truss, the trip is not to the NATO MARCOM Headquarters which is also in London.

Note that she has with other heads has only online calls.

Originally I believed that Mette went to meet Truss to present the hydroacoustic evidence which shows that it was a UK asset near Bronholm.

Now I am inclined to think that the decision of a cover up has been taken before the meeting but DK people should ask Mette K.'

So, what was the purpose of this meeting? Did she know already? Was this about how the case is handled? Was Denmark asking for explanation? Did UK present some evidence pointing to UK and asking explanation?]

31 Sept 2022 - UK Prime Minister Liz Truss meets with her Danish counterpart Mette Frederiksen in London -

[M: To me Mette looks quite upset and stressed out. So was it so that for DK the UK was a prime suspect from the very beginning?]

31 Sept 2022 - The meeting of DK and UK prime ministers in London

1 Oct 2022 - Statsminister Mette Frederiksen er ankommet til London for at

mødes med PM og drøfte skaderne på Nord Stream 1 og 2.

The video before the meeting.

The video after the meeting.

Danish Premier Frederiksen is extremely worried
about Nord Stream sabotage quote...

[M: To me Mette has very odd body language, at 0:10 min
she looks down when framing the act as the "this is sabotage"
and shakes bit head, then after saying
at 0:17 min "we do not know who is behind, ... eeeehm ..."

While she says we do not know who is responsible,
the body language contradiction is rising my eyebrows.

Another interesting info is her disclosing that
the previous day DK-SWE-GER decided cooperation in the investigation]

VII. The following trip is to Brussels meets EU & NATO heads

1 Oct 2022 - NATO chief meets Danish PM to address Nord Stream 'sabotage'

[M: From early on top decisionmakers frame the case as a "sabotage", not a "state terrorism". There is HUGE reason why this is. More info in the link to legal aspects]

31 Sept 2022 - Mette Frederiksen meets Charles Michel on 01 Sept 2022.

[M: Seems there were some changes in planning and the meeting was day postponed.]

01 Sept 2022 - UK's Truss meets Danish counterpart, discuss Nord Stream 'sabotage'

They agreed the incidents were clearly an act of sabotage," Truss's office said in a statement.

[M: Based on what? Why not an act of state terrorist attack on key infrastructure?]

01 Oct 2022 - Metter Frederiksen "Things can happen that we have not had the imagination to imagine"

We are vulnerable, we are worried, and we are in very, very close dialogue with our allies. No country can handle this task alone, says Mette Frederiksen...

I listen a lot to what Putin saysBoth in his speech yesterday, but also on other occasions.

And I notice that it is said directly from Putin's side that several different weapons and methods may be used.

[M: Seems she knew already who was behind. Note the last part -> Some action by Russia was expected. The only sense I see is that Russia would opt for retaliation. Yet Russia has chosen NOT to react. It does look like of the of objectives of the Nordstream sabotage was to provoke Russia to respond outside the localized Russian-Ukrainian conflict]

1 Oct 2022 - Damaged Nord Stream 1 Pipeline Stabilized, Gas Leak Halted

"Sabotage of Nord Stream pipelines is a threat to the EU," Charles Michel, who chairs meetings of EU leaders, said in a tweet on October 1 after talks with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Brussels.

Note that he somehow "knew" that it was a sabotage already on 28-09-2022 based on his tweet:

1 Oct 2022 - For the European Political Community, meeting is the message

European Union leaders will discuss the security of crucial infrastructure when they meet in Prague next week following damage to the Nord Stream pipelines that many in the West have said was caused by sabotage.

[M: Many said it was a "sabotage"]

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was tied up with a crucial parliamentary debate at home, bringing the number of leaders down to 43 from the originally envisaged 44.

VIII. The NATO naval HQ is in Northwoods, London

London -> Northwood Headquarters

  1. Headquarters, Strategic Command, formerly Joint Forces Command
  2. Permanent Joint Headquarters
  3. Commander Operations for the Royal Navy
  4. NATO Allied Maritime Command

Mette visits a UK government, not Northwood;

and then flies to NATO HQ, EU HQ to Brussels.

WHY?.

5 Oct 2022 - CNN - The USA considering offering to analyse underwater audio recordings to aid Nord Stream pipeline sabotage investigations. Article speaks about sonar signature”.

NOTE:

"Does anyone have underwater audio recordings around the date of the Nordstream sabotage? It looks like Sweden, Poland or Denmark could have recordings?"

QUESTION: So, what evidence Denmark has and does not share?

IX. Rishi Sunak´s 2017 report

Whether from terrorist activity or an increasingly bellicose Russian naval presence, the threat of these vulnerabilities being exploited is growing. A successful attack would deal a crippling blow to Britain’s security and prosperity. The threat is nothing short of existential.

[M: The same could be said about other countries including Russia]

[M: How interesting that the key UK official representative
is so well versed in legal aspects of attacks
 on the key undersea infrastructure.]
[M: Interesting points - location, choke points, ease of use]

Admiral James Stavridis, US Navy (Ret) foreword

[M: US, UK are aware that the aggressor enjoys plausible deniability]

Cables Have Inadequate Protection in International Law

[M: Internet cables and gas pipelines are both classified
as "critical infrastructure"]

"...Even accidental damage far from home can have significant consequences..."

[M: Internet cables and gas pipelines are both classified
as "critical infrastructure"]

[M: The UK has done it in the past already, in ascent to WWI]
