Mortymer's investigation, conducted between 2022 and 2024, identifies a small faction within the UK government as responsible for the Nord Stream attack.
Original report, in October, November 2022 possibly a key evidence was found, further probes discovered serious inconsistencies. Systematic probe was conducted, pre-investigation has shown a complex case and possible coordinated actions in cover-up of circumstances
Progress report: While the 2023 focused on identifying of the perpetrator(s), crime scenes (near Bornholm, government offices) the 2024 focused on other actors involved in the case. The data is robust enough to reconstruct sequence of events leading to the affair, the affair itself and events surrounding the case which happened afterwards.
US Involvement: The investigation shows that the US was aware of the UK's plans and communicated this to some European partners.
The cover-up: There are several motives as why the case is kept sealed starting from uncomfortable admission of pre-knowledge of the threat which was not shared with the majority owner of the pipeline, failure to act in proportion to the threat and failure to prevent the event.
Other motives of the cover-up: Admission that the perpetrator was a member of NATO has serious strategic implications. The public could demand states to leave the alliance. The Trans-Atlantic link could be further severed which could create a political and security vacuum.
Government officials are compromised: To cover-up the serious crime which could be defined as a terrorist act by a state is a crime itself. Government officials decided jointly not to release what they know.
Methodology: Evidence was meticulously collected, analyzed, and disseminated, culminating in the publication of findings on a blog
Accessibility: The investigation is entirely self-funded and results are publicly available. There is no secret dat source, all information is verifiable and properly (dates work as web links).
Future Plans: The year 2025 will be dedicated to synthesizing and publishing comprehensive findings.
2022 - The primary goal of Mortymer´s Nordstream Investigation in the Year 2022 was to follow the case itself. Evidence, data was collected but unpublished. In October and November the case was discussed offline. In December 2022 a short summary was posted to several people, it included a few events which may have been considered key evidence and several other data-points overlooked by all journalists and public. Circumstances, inconsistencies, very non-standard and odd behavior, the denial, plus the shock and awe of public brought this case to spotlight.
2023 - The primary goal of Mortymer´s Nordstream Investigation in the Year 2023 was first to pass the collected evidence to investigative journalists. Reaching out on open to top investigators did not go as expected. Hersh´s claim in February negate all efforts. Contacting Sy Hersh led to him shutting off after evidence was passed to him. There were many wild speculations but public lacked any meaningful hard data. The collected evidence was incrementally published on this blog.
The the investigation case itself was initiated and pre-investigation was launched, the hypothesis was defined, tested, data properly collected, sorted, categorized and analysed in blocks. Profiling on individual and state level has been concluded. Comprehensive pool of 17 suspected states nd their representatives was defined. key decision-makers were identified in each state and analysed separately, those with data published, rest not (yet). All by the book.
The investigative work was open to public and published results are accessible with no pay-wall, the investigation is self funded thus independent of political or other parties, all data is verifiable and sourced from public domain. The scope definition followed, then planning of next investigative steps, what to include and what not. Due to limitation not all results (e.g. minor findings, all offline work, notes, tons of data, sources, links, debunked part of sub-claims) are published but all are available would the need arise. Master Data-Set was made accessible to serious interested parties (later improved, republished).
In summary the 2023 investigation could be defined as focused on the suspect itself. The investigation has concluded. The set of available data show a small group in UK´s government is responsible for planning, preparing, orchestrating and executing the mission against international key infrastructure.
The last post of 2023 is a comparison with Hersh´s claim, the other half is the overview of posts divided into blocks based on topics.
2024 - The focus of Mortymer´s Nordstream Investigation in the Year 2024 was to collect the evidence and analyse behavior of other actors. Two investigations, one in Sweden and another in Denmark were discontinued, only one in Germany is supposedly still ongoing. No results have been published.
The 2024 investigation collected additional data which were analysed, cross-verified. The sequence of events covering the year 2022 when the attack happened was described in another 105 posts. They complement the 2023 research. There is absolutely no internal or external discrepancy, all available data point to one and only explanation how events unfolded.
The conclusion is that the USA has had previous knowledge about the UK´s plan to attack Nordstream. Plans were in advanced stage already in spring and early in summer 2022 and so the USA informed discretely its main European allies (France, Germany, Norway). The case was discussed with the UK on the top level and shelved.
The UK got a new leadership Boris Johnson was deposed and Liz Truss took a post of Prime Minister. The mission was already re-launced and she had confirmed its greenlight, prepared UK´s economy, its political structure for expected crisis. The mission was multifaceted and included management on international level through NATO, EU, foreign ministers and other official and unofficial channels.
The perpetrator was temporarily successful in concealing what happened and who is really responsible yet the case is far from being closed. The mission failed and now European Leadership is compromised
2025 - The focus of Mortymer´s Nordstream Investigation in the Year 2025 will be synthesis and publishing results.
This is the only publicly open investigation.
It took over 2 years and still brings new findings.
